January 2016 News
Happy 2016 and welcome back to school!!
Reminder: The students in our class may wear pajamas to school on Monday, January 4.
Reading Homework...
To provide additional reading practice at home, I will send a passage in your child's red folder on Mondays beginning in January. The idea is to encourage your child to practice by reading this sheet each night. He/she will quickly see progress with each night of practice during the week. If your child seems to struggle with this exercise, please feel free to offer assistance or even read it together if it helps.
My goal for 2016 is to help your child make the transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn". I will also continue to help your child to find books that are a "good fit" to encourage reading for pleasure.

Pen Pals...
We have an exciting opportunity to become pen pals with third through sixth grade students from South Korea. My niece Amanda, a recent University of Minnesota graduate, is currently living in Korea and teaching English to Korean students. Our students can actually be "teachers" and assist the Korean students in learning English by writing letters to them. It will be quite a challenge for the Korean stuedents, who know very little English to respond to our letters.
